All I want to do is practice
That's it. Not do homework or go to work. Just practice and improve my sound. I'm really motivated right now, which is frustrating because I have all of this stuff in the way. I really just want to improve my musicianship. I'm learning more and more that I'm definitely not where I need to be. I can get in a couple hours here and 45 minutes there. It's not enough. Thank goodness for the weekends and 5 hours a day of open practice rooms. Unbothered. Just me and my horn.

I FEEL THE EXACT SAME WAY! It's funny that school gets in the way of you preparing for your life's goal.
That is the essence of the creative drive--that sense of longing, and then the feeling of timelessness when you're finally engaging in your art. The longing is what keeps you going, because it reminds you that you must engage creatively to be your highest self.
So remember that month or so you had off before school started? Did you practice as much as you could all that time? No, just like I didn't paint all summer; there's something about the compression of time that focuses our desires and ambitions. It takes a disciplined person to maintain that level of focus when time is open-ended. I haven't learned how yet. . . never too late though. Maybe the pressures that frustrate you are at the same time focusing your intention and your identity as an artist. Maybe being an artist is, essentially, using the longing to drive us to a place where the creative urge is so habitual that we can't ignore it.

You both are such smart people
As long as we're working towards it...
I practiced for 5 hours today
I love the fact that you want to be progressive and move forward in your musicianship. Kudos for being studious. Just don't get burned out... Ciao!
